Middlesbrough Baptist Church was established in 1849. The Church
was located in the town centre until the 1950s when the buildings
were found to be suffering from a serious structural defect – described
by the insurance company as an ‘Act of God’! The
Church moved to its current building on Cambridge Road in Linthorpe
in 1958.
Our
present pastor is Kevin Leavesley who was appointed in 2003 following
two years of schools ministry work with us. Kevin is planning
to complete his training at a Baptist training college.
Cambridge Road is a modern and light building looking more like
a community centre or school hall than a traditional Church building.
In fact it was originally designed to be a Church hall with a
large grass area to the front reserved for a more traditional
Church building to be added at a later date. This means that
the Church building is set well back from Cambridge Road and
approached by quite a long driveway which we are aware can be
a little daunting for first-time visitors. Do not be put off,
once inside the building you are assured of the warmest of welcomes.
Children are very much welcomed and part of the service. Many
of the children leave the service at some point for their own
groups (for games and teaching), though all are reunited for
the final part of the service. A crèche (with audio coverage
of the service) operates for the youngest of children; please
ask the stewards for directions if you need this.
Don't worry if you don't know the songs we sing. We sing a variety
of traditional and modern songs and hymns of worship sometimes
led by members of the worship group (instruments and vocal).
The sermon is always Bible based, relevant, up building and
encouraging.
Sunday morning worship service is at 10.30am. After the service
(around midday), we gather in the back premises of the Church
(follow the crowd!) where hot and cold drinks are served.
Come and enjoy worshipping with us.
